Action: What ELSE could I be angry about on a day like today?
You probably have heard it from other people. Maybe. If they’ve got a single brain cell working or not. If not, let me spell it out for you: American elections have officially been round up, taken out back, shot and then sold to the highest bidder. The Supreme Court ruled today that corporations and unions can give as much money as they want to candidates, with no limitations. None. And yes, the Supreme Court did this. The Supreme Court? Are you sure? The most powerful and respected judges in America? With decades of experience under their belts and degrees from prestigious universities? Those legendary arbiters of truth and reason? Yes, they did this. They did this to us. The most powerful court in America has failed its citizens.
You don’t need to be a Political Science degree to know this is bad. You don’t need a seal of approval to have an opinion about where you think your country is going. You don’t need a goddamn permit to be outraged at this. You don’t need to be afraid of being called a conspiracy theorist if you’re worried about your country. The battle lines have been drawn. Our government has been so thoroughly infiltrated by Wall Street business executives that even appointed Supreme Court judges have been bought, and the politicans have been routinely dismantling everything this country stands for.
I kept quiet when my high school teachers warned me of Bush’s links to Haliburton and his desire to go to war. I turned the other cheek when the government gave taxpayer dollars for paid thugs to torture innocent foreigners whenever they wanted. And even when the economy tanked, I didn’t want to hear about the billions of dollars our government gave to the sociopath investors that drove our country to hell. Someone else will deal with it, I told myself. It’ll blow over soon enough. Just another annoyance of life. It’s not like I’m qualified to do anything. I’m no expert.
You know what I say to that now? No. Fucking. More.
No more lies. I’m tired of lying to myself. This country isn’t going to get better if concerned, good people think they’re the only ones out there. And whatever sick, diabolic force that propels the psychopaths to put on a suit and drink a cup of coffee in the morning is only going to grow if people don’t fight back. I’m done running from this monster. There is no more trust left to give. I’ve turned the cheek too many goddamn times to let this shit happen to me again. It’s time that we stopped occupying this space like we’re living on borrowed land and bring our country back. It’s time we stopped thinking of politicians as our superiors. Look where it’s gotten us! Nowhere. The only thing that’s certain is that we have to do something. Our government is failing and it’s time to show them who their paychecks belong to.
Call this number. 1-866-220-0044. When the lady says “Capital”, you say your rep’s last name. When they transfer you to their office, tell the congressional aid that if he likes his job he should listen closely to what you have to say, and then let ‘em have it. Rip ‘im a new ear hole. And don’t stop until he understands what you want. We don’t need to be experts, we just need to be citizens.
